For over a decade, Toyota has sold the fifth generation 4Runner to great success. Now, the 2025 model year will see the release of the sixth generation, and it's sure to delight many. Now, there are new engine options, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and a TNGA-F frame and suspension architecture. There are also elements borrowed from the Tacoma pickup that will impress many, so keep reading to learn more.
Highlights of the New 4Runner
As mentioned, the new 4Runner is inspired by the Tacoma pickup. With some features being ripped straight from the model itself. For example, the 4Runner's new exterior design has a new front end inspired by the Tacoma. But the interior has identical buttons, an instrument cluster, and a center stack.
Like the Tacoma, the 4Runner also now has a TNGA-F frame and suspension for better off-road capabilities. Additionally, the new setup allows the Trailhunter trim to be optimized for overland and rocky terrain. While the TRD Pro trim is geared more toward desert excursions.
Then there's the new powertrains, which, as you may guess, are borrowed from Tacoma. Coming standard is a turbocharged 2.4-liter i-Force inline-four-cylinder producing 278 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque. There's also a 2.4-liter i-Force Max 4Runner Hybrid with an electric that produces 278 hp. Though higher trims with the hybrid setup can produce 326 hp and 465 pound-feet of torque.
