Toyota’s Plans New EV Batteries

Recently, Toyota held a technical briefing called "Toyota Technical Workshop." The main topic of this briefing is "Let's Change the Future of Cars." In the discussions, Toyota unveiled its long-term and short-term plans for improving electric battery technology.

During the briefing, Toyota revealed it will offer several battery options. One of which is a high-performance pack. Another is a mass-market low-cost "bipolar" lithium iron phosphate solid-state battery. With this battery, Toyota aims to improve multiple aspects for the company and consumers. The new battery is expected to cost 40 percent less. It's also expected to have a 20 percent higher range and less than 30 minutes of charging.

Releasing around 2027 or 2028, the new solid-state battery will be a marked improvement over current models. With greater energy density, higher electric range, and faster charging. The new battery aims to have a refueling time that is on par with a gas-powered vehicle. It should also have a range of around 745 miles.
