Overseas, the Toyota Hilux is as popular a name as the RAV4 or Camry. But soon, the Hilux will make its American debut, and many will know its name. As a midsize truck, the Hilux is reliable and versatile and is a rival to the Ford Ranger. Upon its release, many American drivers will love what this pickup offers, so keep reading to learn more.

New & Updated

For Americans, the Hilux is brand-new. However, overseas, many will find that the 2026 model will receive new changes. Drivers can expect an updated design, powertrains, and performance.

Refined Design

Not much is known about the design of the new Hilux. But through digital rendering, we can make an educated guess. From what we can gather, the front end will feature slim headlights and a boxy grille. The front bumper offers sculpted side sections and a prominent skid plate. As for the fenders, these appear to use plastic cladding, and the rear likely sports updated taillights and integrated steps on the bumper.

Enhanced Performance

Under the hood, the Hilux will utilize a mild-hybrid setup with a 2.8-liter four-cylinder diesel engine. There will also be gasoline and diesel options offered depending on the market. Although not confirmed to be coming with the Hilux, Toyota has showcased prototypes with fully electric and hydrogen fuel-cell powertrains. So, a fully electric Hilux is not entirely out of the question.
