The Toyota Highlander has become one of the most popular midsize SUVs over the years. It’s so popular, in fact, that this year, Toyota is releasing a larger model called the Toyota Grand Highlander. This SUV takes what you know and love about the Highlander and expands upon it. To top things off, this model also comes with a high-performance hybrid powertrain for better fuel economy. Highlights of the Grand Highlander
Performance
The Toyota Grand Highlander will be available with three powertrains. The base powertrain is a turbocharged 265-hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder with front- or all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The other two powertrains are hybrid options. The first powertrain uses two electric motors and a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine to produce 243 horsepower. While the other is the Hybrid Max powertrain. This sees a turbocharged 2.4-liter paired with an electric motor to produce 362 horsepower.
The EPA has not rated this model’s fuel economy. However, according to Toyota, the 2.5-liter hybrid will be the most fuel-efficient with a combined 34-mpg.
Technology
Across each trim of the Grand Highlander is a slew of tech to enjoy. All models have a 12.3-inch touchscreen utilizing Toyota’s latest software interface and a wireless smartphone charging pad. And a seven-inch digital display gauge cluster is also standard. Higher trims will receive an all-digital 12.3-inch gauge display.
Safety Features
Toyota has always cared about driver safety, and it's why the Grand Highlander is so well-equipped. Every model uses Toyota’s new TSS 3.0 system, which will include blind-spot monitoring and automated emergency braking. Other features include adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beam headlamps, and a road-sign recognition system.
